This beautiful coffee comes from the Hutwe washing station in the Kirumba zone of DR Congo. This area of Congo ecologically is perfect for coffee production - plentiful rainfall, high altitude and fertile volcanic soil. But it also currently deals with dangerous rebel groups, poverty and a lack of infrastructure. This has made producing quality arabica coffee difficult for this region. That's why Olam Specialty Coffee Importers started the Virunga Coffee Company. Their goal is to improve farmer's livelihoods and the land in Kivu. We think this coffee is a wonderful representation of the work being done and we are proud to carry it. It's a bourbon varietal grown 1600-1800 MASL and tastes like pineapple and mixed berries.
